Could I claim to run a New England travel blog if I never wrote about the New England Patriots?
The answer: NO!
The Patriots and New England go hand-in-hand. When the Patriots win, New England wins, and there are celebrations all over the region’s six states. We’re proud of our team’s victories, and even prouder of the fact that the rest of the country just can’t stand us. We consider it part of our charm.
For New England fans, Patriot Place in Foxborough, MA is Mecca. Whether it’s to see a game at Gillette Stadium, eat at one of the one of the many dining establishments, or go shopping, every true fan has made, or will make, a pilgrimage to the football capital of New England.
And, in our football capital, we can visit The Hall, a shrine to the history and accomplishments of the New England Patriots.
As you begin your journey into The Hall, one of the first things you’ll see is a 15-minute movie about the Patriots’ history. Come to find out, they weren’t always so good. When they were still the Boston Patriots and playing at random college campuses, they were downright horrible. In 1971, the team moved to Foxborough and the name changed to the New England Patriots. In 1994, Bob Kraft bought the team for $174 million. The rest is history.

You can also view a few of their treasured awards. Three of these are Tom Brady’s “Player of the Year Award,” and the other belongs to Bill Belichick for “Coach of the Year.” At first glance I thought they were the Lombardi Trophies… shame on me for that thought.
When we went to The Hall in early March of 2019, we hadn’t yet learned of Rob Gronkowski’s retirement, so posting a picture of the cleats he wore during Superbowl XLIX is bittersweet.
You can also test your knowledge of the team’s history at an interactive game.
Be One of the Team
This was my favorite part. There’s a spot where you can see if you can kick as well as Vinatieri! I’d like to think that I did pretty well!
After I kicked the field goal, I had to huddle with the team to discuss our next play.
There’s another cool spot where you can be Butler and intercept the ball (we all remember that it was the Butler in the endzone with the pick…) but when I tried it out, it didn’t go so well. Looks like I’ll have to stick with being a punter and receiver.
The Lombardi Trophies
Here they are, in all their glory. When we visited, there were only five displayed. I know that saying “only five” may sound ridiculous to fans of other teams, but it doesn’t to us. I can only presume that there are plans to update the exhibit to make room for their sixth and most recent win in what is now the lowest-scoring Super Bowl in NFL history.
After you’re done admiring the trophies and walk through the duck boat (any self-respecting New Englander knows that the duck boats play a vital roll in our Super Bowl victory parades), you can browse the Pro Shop for your Patriots gear.
