The Acushnet Sawmill in Acushnet, MA, has been reclaimed by nature. The cacophony of logging equipment has been replaced with the melodies of wildlife. This special place is just a stone’s throw away from New Bedford and is the perfect spot for a short walk.
Another beautiful day, another adventure! Benny wanted to check out the Acushnet Sawmill. This location is now a small park managed by the Buzzards Bay Coalition.
The paths are well maintained, as you can see. For once, Benny had no excuse to hitch a ride in my backpack. That’s right, I made him walk. He was okay with that. Once we arrived to the river outlook, he put his feet in the water to cool off.
We also saw some ducks. Benny tried to speak with them. “I can speak duck!” he boasted. All of a sudden, this little bear started yelling, “Quack, quack, quaaaccckk!”
The ducks just looked at him.
The Acushnet Sawmill also has a learning area for small groups. Here, Benny is pretending to be an attentive visitor. A butterfly flew by him, and he became distracted.
That butterfly most likely calls one of these fields home. Benny thought that a peaceful meadow was the perfect spot to take a nap.
So, he found a rock and made himself at home.
Our meanderings through the trails lead us to some more awesome views. We came across this scenic outlook. I told Benny that it looked like it would be a nice place to bring a canoe.
“Well, that’s why it’s the Canoe Launch! Read the map, Bob!”
Benny wanted to add a few more photos of the area. He said it would help you appreciate the “ambiance.” I think he just wanted a reason to use that word, but nevertheless, here are the photos.
He also wants you to know that if you’re exploring Acushnet, you should also go to White’s Factory.
Be careful on this walkway/bridge/…thing.
